After their involvement in the Battle of Messines, 13th Middlesex of 73 Brigade, 24th Division spent a week in Micmac Camp in the rear area of the Ypres salient. On 19th June, 1917 they moved forward to the front line once again, this time in the trenches from Railway Embankment in Battle Wood to the Ypres-Comines canal. They spent five days here during which time they came under continuous and heavy shelling as they consolidated the recently gained new line. They sustained a number of casualties while in these positions, one of whom was William Thomas who was killed on 21st June. |
